katowice and region

The city has close links with the metropolis. It only takes 30 minutes on the motorway to drive East to West across this rather compact area with over 2 million residents. The local cultural institutions offer a varied and complementary range of events.

The residents of Katowice and the surrounding cities and towns are not connected only by their geographical proximity, but also by their shared heritage. All of them are facing the same problems which can only be solved through their joint efforts.

Due to its heavy-industry past Katowice is not perceived as an attractive place to live. The common view is that Silesia is nothing but an environmentally-degraded region full of undereducated people interested only in trashy entertainment. It is through our joint efforts and by showing our region's diversity and potential that we can challenge these stereotypes.
